War of Independence
When the people of Bangladesh were being oppressed, deprived of their fundamental rights, being exploited, then the people became agitated and felt the necessity of Independence from the occupation forces of Pakistan. We achieved our independence in 1971 after a nine month’s bloody battle. Indeed, our spirit of independence sprouted in the language movement in 1952 and in the mass upsurge 1969. The freedom loving people of this country raised their fiery voice against injustice and exploitation. The Pakistani ruler deployed armed forces on the civilian people of this land. The occupation forces committed genocide at night on 25 March, 1971. People from all walks of life came out with rustic weapons to fight against the occupation forces. Dividing the country into eleven sectors, the Mukti Bahini engaged in guerrilla fighting. The occupation forces started killing civilian people indiscriminately. The people of this country fought bravely. They had no big weapon but had valour and strong mentality to free the country from the clutches of the Pakistani. When their evil end came to and end when they saw that there is no way to escape they started to kill our intellectuals in different professions. It was 14 December the world saw the cruel brutality of the Pakistani occupation forces. On 16 December, 1971 the Pakistani occupation forces surrendered we goy our victory at the cost of 3million lives. Bangladesh came in to being in the world map.
